RULES
staff transparency doc

  1. Don't be a dick. No harassment, no discourse, no trolling, no -isms or -phobias (you know what this means), no gossip about real people, no powerplay/godmod/etc, credit art/photos/videos, if you have a problem, take it to staff. Try to keep things in good faith here.

  2. 18+ server. We won't check/verify age here, but this rp allows heavy topics like past abuse, gruesome deaths, and off-screen torture. Any indication of real-life child abuse or intent to harm children will lead to an immediate ban/report (but keep all anti/proship business out of this server).
If it's gruesome, violent, or extremely emotional, stick a spoiler and a warning on it. Don't censor your spoilers: If you're warning for murder, call it murder. DON'T censor disabled, scarred, and disfigured characters + people; doing so is ableism.

  3. Pluralkit. Pluralkit is for system use only. Don't interrogate systems and don't talk syscourse here. Remember rule 1.

  4. No AI. That means art, photos, text, videos, every medium. If you think someone's using AI, open a ticket and explain your reasoning there.

  5. Minimum activity. Submitting threads for activity rewards is optional, but if you post/say nothing for 3 months without explanation (or 5 months with one), you'll be kicked and your characters will be NPC'd, potentially killed or displaced after 1 month's further absence.

  6. Announcements = rules. Don't submit for closed options, be polite if your submission is rejected, and don't assume that info posts and requests outside of this list won't be enforced by staff.

  7. Dice. If you need to settle a decision or just want to roll dice, you can use ?check. You can use activity rewards to get free re-rolls, there are no stats, exp, etc. Dice rolling is only for what YOU do, the only thing other players have to abide by is what you write. Remember rule 1.

  8. Liquid time. Lasthaven has liquid time; if it's in the modern part of the newsfeed or your character's backstory, you can play with it. You need staff permission to RP scenes in/before the Plague Years (ex. your character's parents, grandparents, etc).

  9. Character limits. Everyone gets 2 character slots, you need to use activity rewards or open a ticket if you want to make additional characters when your slots are full. Open a ticket to kill off/displace a character or plot a death with another player, there are no retcons here.

  10. Designs. Characters with "tribal" body paint/tattoos, full pelt headdresses, or bone or feather accessories will be rejected until those elements are removed. Cats should be described with natural fur colors, patterns, and textures, but art can be stylized.

  11. No herb lists. Use forms of medicine instead of listing ingredients, ex. poultice, salve, tea, etc. If using raw medicine, describe it as herbs, leaves, stems, flowers, seeds, roots, mushrooms, etc. Refer to Clan bios to see what each Clan predominantly uses.

DICE RULES

Using dice in threads is optional! If you do use dice, however, please use this system. Some quests may specify rolling rules; for those, please either follow the rules set for the quest or talk to the quest organizer about alternative options!

When preparing to use dice, figure out the difficulty rating of the task you're trying to complete -- dice should ONLY be rolled when you have a specific goal in mind, and only to define what your own character is doing: Dice at Lasthaven should not be used to decide how others react to your character, meaning that, for example, if you want to intimidate someone, you can only use dice to determine how well your character's actions represent their intentions, not whether or not the character they're trying to intimidate has the desired reaction to what they're doing.

Difficulty ratings are as follows:

Instant (charm, intimidate, endure, etc) -- Goals you can only accomplish through a singular action. You must get 1 hit in 1 roll to succeed!

Casual (gather common resources, repair, clean a wound,, search for something, etc) -- Goals that require a few basic steps to achieve, but which aren't very challenging or costly to attempt. You must get 3 hits in any number of rolls to succeed!

Adventurous (gather rare resources, make something new, etc) -- Goals that are more complicated and less forgiving than what your character would encounter in their day to day. You must get 5 hits in 5 rolls or less to succeed, but if you fail, you can try again!

Escape sequence -- These are not regular goals, but rather situations that involve your character trying to get away from or persevere through a high-stakes situation, such as a large animal encounter, a natural disaster, or a critical illness. You must get 5 hits in 4 rolls or less to succeed, and if you fail, your character (or whoever they're trying to help) may get hurt in some way! The severity of the injury is up to you, as is the matter of whether or not they're healed through rp threads.

Character deaths should always be planned with staff in advance and not purely based on a roll of the dice, so affected players have time to plan around those serious developments; you can, however, also make plans for threads where dying might happen depending on dice rolls.

PVP Race -- If you want to compete against another player, including RPing combat and sparring scenes, you can engage them in a race, where the first character to reach the required number of successes wins! For practice and casual encounters, the target is 3 hits; for real fights and serious encounters, the target is 5 hits. Whether or not you set a time/rolling limit, and what that limit is, is up to you.

There is no stat system at all for Lasthaven; instead, you can use dice rerolls obtained through activity rewards and events as you see fit to improve your odds for activities your characters are good at...or sabotage them for your characters' weaknesses!

ACTIVITY REWARDS

You can submit links to your finished and closed interactions to claim one of the activity rewards below! Once a bond has been used, it can't be used again.

1 bond = 4 thread comments of 3 sentences or longer OR 6 daily comments of any length; you can only count your own comments, but you can use more than one thread for one bond!

If you don't have the required activity for the reward you want, open a ticket -- we don't want to leave out people who've been absent and still want to play.

Disabilities and rare traits will never be on this list, disabilities will never be limited and rare trait limits will be posted in the submissions channel based on how many cats currently have them.

This list and the requirements on it are subject to change!

  1. Dice reroll (1 bond) -- You can use this to re-roll any of your dice rolls! Let staff know when you use it.

  2. Pets, items, accessories (2 bonds) -- Give your character an item (ex. a weapon or tool), functional accessory, or invertebrate pet that they can carry with them! Staff will open a ticket when you redeem this to get info on what you're using it for. Cosmetics are always free, but remember the rules!

  3. Extra character (3 bonds) -- You need to claim this before you submit a character if you already have two!

  4. Create a structure (5 bonds) -- Create a permanent structure (ex. dug-out dens, fortified woven dens, statues, etc) for your character or someone else! Staff will open a ticket when you redeem this to get info on what you're using it for. Temporary structures are always free, but remember the rules!

  5. Small animal ally (6 bonds) -- Forge an unnatural bond between one character and one small non-feline animal! This animal won't live or travel with their new friend, but they may appear in threads outside of camps and dens to offer help. Small animal allies will only appear in peaceful threads and provide 1 free reroll per thread.

  6. Kitten request (8 bonds) -- Have a litter of in-rp kits! You can also submit and collab on regular kit character submissions if the rank is open in submissions. Use ?kits if you want a randomly-generated litter! This litter can be foundlings, adopted, via surrogacy, or with established in-rp mates and co-parents.

  7. Minor magical trait (10 bonds) -- Give a new or existing character a trait that can only be explained by magic: Dreamwalking abilities, hyper-empathy, unnatural eye, fur, and skin colors, symbolic markings, patches of feathers or scales, etc! These traits are easy to hide and do not give your character significant power over the world of the RP.

  8. Major magical ability (15 bonds) -- Give a new or existing character a power that can only be explained by magic: Mind control, weather manipulation, extra lives, spiritual companions, spellcasting, etc! These abilities give your character significant power over the world of the RP.

WARNING SYSTEM

Rules are mostly enforced on a complaint-based system, meaning that unless staff receives a reasonable complaint about a rule being broken, you won't be reprimanded -- mainly, this means staff won't intervene in RP threads unless someone participating in that thread (including staff members) asks us to, and even then, only if that request lines up with these rules.

Staff will intervene if we see rules breaking outside of RP areas, with or without a complaint, but we will try to keep it casual here!

How rule-breaking is handled depends on severity; off-topic chat in OOC channels, lore confusion, etc will usually only involve a casual nudge from staff if that, while more serious rule breaks like leaving something unspoilered/unwarned or posting offensive artwork, OR repeated ignorance of staff input, will operate on a system of 3 warnings -> time out -> 2 warnings -> kick -> 1 warning -> ban.

You can always rejoin after being kicked! Send a friend request to the server admin if you want to appeal a ban through DMs.

Volatile and dangerous situations such as credible threats, suicide baiting, cyberstalking, and members using the server to facilitate crimes might be handled with fewer or no warnings, but bans will always be a last resort.
